Resident and Fellow Section
Created in 2013, the Resident and Fellow Section of the Indiana Radiological Society aims to promote local and national ACR engagement amongst Indiana's radiologists in training. The IRS provides residents and fellows an excellent opportunity to learn and get involved in various activities outside of the reading room. The RFS organizes several meetings per year. Past meetings have featured guest speakers offering tips for success after graduation.
One resident is selected in each class by his or her peers to serve as the representative to the IRS and ACR. These residents have the opportunity to travel to the annual ACR meeting held in Washington, D.C. to network and help advance the leadership and political activities of the ACR. The IRS also provides funding for a few additional at-large resident representatives to travel to the ACR meeting each year. While each class has one delegated representative, everyone has the opportunity to get involved. National and local meetings are open to all residents. Officers of the RFS and IRS are always open to suggestions for new projects.

Testimonials
"I was very grateful for the opportunity to attend RLI this year. I left feeling energized and eager to implement the leadership strategies we learned. Shortly after the conference, I started a research project on residents' sense of ownership over their work which was inspired by some of the talks we heard. I hope many more residents will have the opportunity to attend RLI in the future. Thank you IRS for sponsoring our attendance!" - Peter Gunderman, MD
"Attending the ACR RLI Summit gave me the chance to establish and hone my toolbox for essential leadership qualities. I found it especially valuable because as an R1 just starting residency, I am in a special position to cultivate these qualities early on and hopefully impact the department, my colleagues, and patients in a positive way. From learning how to form exceptional teams, to learning what the value of an "after-action report" is to a radiology institution—all the lessons I came home with are not only applicable to residency but for leading change and growth at any point throughout a radiology career. Additionally, it gave me a unique opportunity to connect with my co-residents from IU outside of work in a new city. Grateful to have been given the opportunity!" - Nirali Dave, MD
"At ACR, we were impressed by our colleagues’ dedication to advocating for our profession and patients. The meeting was an eye-opening experience for a number of the residents to pay more attention to state and federal legislation, which will definitively impact our careers. We also enjoyed the opportunity to get together and network with other students, residents, and faculty from IU and across the country. The RLI meeting served as a way for us to build tangible skills to be better leaders, listeners, and action-oriented, creative problem solvers. We also refined our understanding of business trends in radiology, including increasing consolidation and standardization, that will shape our practice moving forward. Moreover, breaking bread with fellow attendees, ranging from first year residents to vice chairs of radiology departments, fostered camaraderie and a sense of community." - Mohsin Mukhtar, MD, MBA
