We hope you will be able to join us at the Spring Meeting of the Indiana Radiological Society, which will be held in person (without virtual option) on Saturday, May 7, 2022 from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm. RSVP form is below.
Our speaker will be Dr. Frank Lexa (see bio below). Frank Lexa, MD, MBA, FACR Frank J. Lexa, MD, MBA, FACR is the author of the book: “Leadership Lessons for Success in Health Care” which takes a systematic approach to developing medical leadership skills. He is an academic neuroradiologist and is currently a Professor and Vice Chair for Faculty Affairs at the University of Pittsburgh where he also does global radiology work for UPMC International. Dr. Lexa lectures, consults and writes extensively on issues at the interface of health care and business. He has authored over 150 peer reviewed papers as well as multiple articles in the general medical press and in alternative media and has contributed multiple book and encyclopedia chapters. He has given over 2,000 academic, invited, educational, business and Grand Rounds lectures as well as chairing and directing numerous educational meetings for academic, professional and business organizations. He has chaired, co-chaired and served on several key national committees and task forces for major organizations in US radiology. He served on the Board of Chancellors of the American College of Radiology for two terms as the Chair of the Commission on Leadership and Practice Development. He is the Chief Medical Officer of the Radiology Leadership Institute. He is also the current chair of the ACR International Economics Committee and a member of the ACR International Commission as well as the chair of the Intersociety Committee which brings together all of the key organizations in US radiology. He was educated and did his medical training in Boston, the San Francisco Bay Area, and in Philadelphia. He is a licensed airplane pilot and an avid skier and SCUBA diver. He has raised money for several charities in multiple ways including a 100 mile ride for MS research. In his spare time, he bikes and chases after his Portuguese water dog Gabby and his pot belly pig, Pyper. Date: Saturday, May 7, 2022 from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm. This talk will review the drivers of the current wave of corporatizations, the forms that it takes, why it is different this time and how it will affect us in both the short and long terms as well as what we can and should do about this. 10:00 am - 10:15 am - Break 10:15 am - 11:00 am Business Meeting: IRS Officers and Radiologists, Radiation Oncologists, and Business Managers 10:15 am - 11:00 am Dr. Lexa to speak with Residents "Interviewing for Success: Secrets from the Wharton School" 11:00 am - 12:00 pm Session 2 - Dr. Lexa "Work - Work Imbalance and Burnout in Radiology: Saving ourselves and Our Profession" Burnout is not a myth, and it is not a personal weakness. Data regarding the current prevalence of burnout from the first two national surveys of neuroradiologists will be presented. The implications for mental health, physician productivity, personal happiness, group cohesion, turnover will be discussed. The diagnosis and prevention of burnout will be covered. 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm - Lunch Fee/RSVP: Free for active IRS members.
